This was a very short story set in the Elder Races world. It was very far removed from the main stories. While I enjoy the full length novels, I'm finding these shorts a bit lacking. Being a novella, everything feels a bit rushed. And even more so in this one. One of the main characters is in his wolf form for almost half of the story.Claudia is on vacation, traveling through the Nevada desert when she spots something lying alongside the road. It turns out to be a very large dog, that is terribly injured. She manages to get the dog into her car, and starts for the nearest town. She's then pulled over by the local police officer, who escorts her into town to the only vet.Luis is a wolf Wyr. He is an officer with the Elder tribunal police force. He's been investigating goings on at the local silver mine. When he got too close to answers that some wanted kept secret. They tried unsuccessfully to get rid of him. While Luis is too injured to shift, he does find comfort from the human woman who has helped him. There is really no mystery here, it's known pretty early on who the bad guys are, and why they are doing what they are doing. The love story was rushed. Like I said Luis was in his wolf form for most of the story and refused to speak even mind to mind with anyone. Claudia was attracted to Luis in both his wolf and human form, but kept pushing him away because of the age difference between them. If you've read the other books, you know matings between the Wyr and humans always end badly. Claudia does have a small spark of Power, but she is still human. The antique deck of Elder Tarot cards that we first saw in True Colors, shows up again in this story. And it looks like it will be around in the next one as well.It was just OK. Not bad, but not great. Another great little read, my only problem is that it was too short and finished it in no time.To me this didn't seem connected to the series apart from Luis being a Wyr, but by no means did this stop me from reading. I loved that Claudia fround Luis in Wyr form, her character fascinated me as not only was she a take no prisoners person, she was also sarcastic. I also loved Luis's personality and found him strong enough to take Claudia on.I loved that they put their relationship on the back burner while they find out whats going on in those mines but i also loved that when they do actually come together its explosive.I cant help but thinking those Tarot cards may mean something in the future books of this series. Will definitely be reading this again.
Do You like book Natural Evil (2012)?
A great addition to the Elder Race Series! I liked the 'older woman/younger shifter' take!

C'était sympa mais sans plus. On a pas la même magie que dans les autres titres.
