About book Men Of Smithfield: Mark And Tony (2012)
This was a 3.5 star story that I enjoyed via the audio version. This humorous story starts with Mark catching his cheating boyfriend and then turning to Tony, local cop and unrequited love-of-his-life, for help. The narrator (Shannon Gunn) was excellent. The pacing was good and the story progressed at a good rate. His accents were brilliant, particularly Tony, so it was easy to differentiate the characters. The inflections and humour really came through in the narration. The sex scenes were also terrifically done. All in all I would prefer to actually read a book than listen to it (I prefer my own imagination and read a lot faster) but for situations were this isn't possible, this audio version hits the mark I've wanted to give this series a try for a while now, and I was excited to see them being re-released by Carina, with some additional content, as well as the promise of new Men of Smithfield books. I really enjoyed the author's writing style and Mark's first-person narration. He's a bit overwrought and emotional, and it worked for this story, considering his entire life is turned on its end in less than a day. I'm also a fan of the old-friends-into-lovers scenario, so Mark's relationship with Tony was, for me, full of win. My only real complaint was that the story felt unfinished. Hopefully the author does/will return to this couple in future books, because there are so many things that didn't seem done. But I'll definitely pick up the next book when it's re-released next month. And what was up with Tony's pantry? I get he's a little OCD, but fifteen rolls of paper towels and a dozen bags of pretzels? I kept waiting for him to be revealed as an extreme couponer....

Cute and fun, but not nearly as good as her Romano and Albright series in my opinion.

Short and fun. Mark is nuts and I couldn't get enough of him.
