I had trouble deciding between 3 and 4 stars. I erred on the low side - hope Ms. Mitchell will forgive me! ;) I really enjoyed "She Walks In Beauty" and had high hopes so that could be why I was a bit disappointed. The story is a bit awkward to start - the shifting of perspective is not always well done but you get used to it after a while. The "likeable" characters are well done with shading of character but the general town population is a bit more one-dimensional.Did not need the full level of nit-picking detail. (I mean that in more of a literal than figurative sense!)I would probably not suggest the book to anyone but if they asked, I would loan or give out a generally positive opinion. The Book of Susannah. Or a story in the Book of Daniels. In the biblical version, 2 men (I can't remember if they were of a specific status) attempt to take advantage of a woman named Susannah and afterwards accuse her of committing adultery; only Daniel steps up to defend her.I only kind of expected it halfway into the story, and now that I'm thinking as I write this, I realise that there are more parallels than I realise. Why the significance of the Captain's name didn't hit me until now just baffles me.But it's kind of strange that this Daniel should belong to the Church of England when this story belongs to an apocryphal (did I get the term right? non-canon) book? I need to check on that, though. A little difficult for me to do on mobile right now.Overall, a decent novel. I wouldn't consider this a re-telling of the biblical story (because in my opinion, certain fundamental elements were drastically altered, such as Daniel's character), but... I don't know, is there a name for this genre that I'm not very aware of right now?Yep, okay. That's all I have to say. Before I make any (more) incorrect claims...
Do You like book Love's Pursuit (2009)?
I really liked this book. It is nice to find a book that doesn't have bad language in it.
