Jacqueline Kelly does a wonderful job showing the love of science, and wanting to be a part of something that society says one cannot be a part of.I fell in love with Calpurnia Tate, and wanted to know her whole life story. What happens to her in the future, and how does she overcome what society expects of her. Alas, the book only covers six months of her life when she was 11/12 years old the summer of 1889 into the first day of 1900. The book leaves you wanting more, and I am very happy to say that a sequel will be coming in 2015! The story overall was an amazing read for anyone who enjoys science, or wants a reason to love science. Calpurnia does not know much about it when the story starts, but with the help of her brother Harry, who gives her a notebook, and her Grandfather, who teaches her, she begins to love science and everything in nature. Calpurnia and her Grandfather even think that they may have discovered a new kind of plant! Simple science is explained in this novel and since it is beautifully paired with a wonderful story and characters you can't help but fall in love with science and the natural world around you! El mejor libro que he leído recientemente. Aunque está clasificado en infantil puesto que la protagonista es una niña, es una lectura muy creativa para todas las edades. A través de la visión de una niña que descubre la ciencia en el Texas de 1989 descubrimos biología, el cambio que supuso los inventos tecnológicos del momento como el teléfono, automóvil... en una familia numerosa un tanto idealizada pero que afronta temas, aunque brevemente, como la esclavitud, la igualdad de sexos, la guerra civil...Una lectura imprescindible para niños entre doce y noventa y nueve años.
