About book A Evolução De Calpurnia Tate (2009)

Darling! Calpurnia is far more interested in studying science with her naturalist grandfather than learning to cook and sew and other "female" tasks. Callie is spunky, and gives a pleasant perspective of her humble life. Her brothers and their love lives were hilarious! Also her grandfather was a dear, I loved the little throw ins-corresponded with Charles Darwin, Alex Bell and others.Summary: In central Texas in 1899, eleven-year-old Callie Vee Tate is instructed to be a lady by her mother, learns about love from the older three of her six brothers, and studies the natural world with her grandfather, the latter of which leads to an important discovery. This book is about a girl at the turn of the 20th century. She realises that her gifts and interests are not in housekeeping and develops a good bond with her grandfather through their shared love of science and research. I thought it was a nice story that needed a few more layers to it. Was recommended this book through a site about empowering girls and it sort of does that but could have done it in a more clever way. Not something I rushed to finish.
