This was better than I thought it would be. Yes, there were some very steamy scenes, but that really didn't make up the plot of the book at all (which for me was good because that wasn't what I was looking for in this book) although it did add some 'fun' to it.I really enjoyed the characters... they were relatable, realistic and I liked reading about them. The plot actually went somewhere. A little mystery, some love, some angst... it was good. The plot moved and didn't stagnate (which I find happens in some of the more steamier type books I've read). It also had some well thought out storylines. I definitely would want to read more about some of the other characters with their side stories.Overall, I just liked this book. I noticed there are more books in the series and I'd like to read those as well sometime. Setting: Boulder, Colorado; Donovan Brothers Brewery; family home; police station; his townhouse; Jamie duplex; Theme: Family; trust; risking hurt to fall in love;Characters:Tessa Donovan: sister third of the Brewery; degree in business; runs the office portion; lost parents when she was 14, and she is afraid of losing her brothers, prompting her to stretch the truth (like she’s still a virgin) to keep them happy and stress free; has kept her heart free of past romances;Luke Asher: Detective; town boy, police detective on LAPD, returned after divorce, and almost dying from a stab wound; good looking; gossip is that he left his wife when she was diagnosed with cancer (she left him), nickname of Magnet (really Bullet magnet, because caught bullet that went through wall his first week on job – not Babe magnet that other assume), that he got his partner pregnant and is not taking responsibility for it; he wants to fix things;Simone Parker: his partner – 7 months pregnant; she has shut down, won’t talk to him about the pregnancy, the baby father, what she needs… he shows up in the parking lot at her doctor’s appointment, and she gets angry… he is doing his best to respect her boundaries, but to be there for her (getting pregnancy books, offering to go to birthing class)… ends up she slept with their boss (Sergeant Pallin) who was separated from his wife (she kicked him out)… but when she asked him back, he went back to wife and kids… Simone didn’t know pregnant yet… and they are keeping it quiet… by the end, she loosens up, and lets Luke in a bit…Sergeant Pallin: feels badly about what happened – but doesn’t want to lose his wife… Luke tells him to find a job somewhere else, once Luke figures out who it is..‘Jamie’ James Francis Donovan: younger brother; rebellious and playboy as teen – still a bit of a playboy; Eric doesn’t see him as grown up, and discounts any of his suggestions of improvements for the business; sexy; bartender and as such is an attraction, especially to the women; manipulated by Monica Kendall, she claims to be too tipsy, so he takes her home (after she opens the front door that he had locked, so burglar could break in) and has sex with her, and is seen by her father leaving in the morning, thus leading to father breaking deal with them; built deck, landscaped, and building a water fall/pond at his new home;Eric Donovan: oldest brother; at 24, when parents died, he took over family business and finished raising siblings; has a vision of expansion, but doesn’t include siblings in decisions; stressed;Monica Kendall / Graham Kendall: VPs of High West Air; criminals; putting pressure on Tessa to sign up as sponsor for a charity golf tournament – and last year’s tournament raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, but only $3,000 made it to the charity; responsible for breakins to businesses and stealing of computers to get social security numbers, to sell;Roland Kendall: father; business head; has been holding Eric off in making a deal to feature their beer on his charter flights; rescued son from legal problems in past… ignores daughter’s value;Wallace Hood: their brew master; bisexual; grouchy; dramatic;Beth Cantrell: manager of sex toy shop – and one weekend stand with Eric (who gave Jamie as his name, and feels guilty); leading a class on fellatio;Summary:Family dynamics: business growing… the siblings not connected on its future plans… brothers are at odds, younger one irresponsible, but doesn’t feel listened to, older one making too many decisions on own… sister trying to keep everyone happy;Two damaged people, with an overpowering attraction that helps them transcend and cross into risking love; they connect, they move forward, they move back… they love… Memorable scenes:“Let’s watch a movie. Enough saving the world for one day. Let’s just relax. And maybe… fall. Very carefully.”Relates that when married, they were married too young, he was spending a lot of time at work, but when she got sick, he could work at fixing it – learning about it, going to appointments with her… gave a focus to how to reconnect with her… but she realized their relationship had been empty, and she didn’t want to spend whatever life she had left tied to him… and then when he almost died, she didn’t even come to see him in the hospital – when he needed someone so badly…. hmmmm
Do You like book Le Brave Ragazze Non Lo Fanno (2013)?
This was a light and quick read. I really liked the characters, though Tessa drove me a bit crazy.
