About book La Couronne De Flammes (2013)

Wow, this book is amazing. I enjoyed the first book The Girl of Fire and Thorns. This second book exceeded my expectations. I love how the it keeps me so interested that I want to keep reading and reading. I was so excited on this book to find that Elisa finds herself in love and how the author keeps us wanting to read more about their love story. From the first book, I was so sad about Humberto. But now I love how Hector and Elisa loves grow. The author did such a great job with that. I really recommend this book especially after reading the Girl of Fire and Thorns. It is a must read. I know I ranked the first book higher because it was so refreshing, and I loved the drops of worldbuilding and the variation of characters and how they reflected the society they were living in. Elsa's transformation, more internal than the physical, was fantastic, and that development was so well earned. The second book feels like a second book; it is very much one of transition as Elsa is adjusting to ruling life without Alejandro, and her new feelings for Hector, and as relationships shift. My favorite things were the buildup up the Hector/Elisa relationship and how the narrative did not completely shy away from difficulties inherent in the pairing, and the tension in the Ximena relationship as Elsa gains her footing more and starts to behave more independently. Those hints of worldbuilding that I loved were not really built on that much, and that was a disappointment. It's just a consequence of the storytelling. I also found the representation of the antagonist nation hazy, but I did like the introduction of Storm, just to give a glimpse of the people, even if he is an outcast. I did enjoy reading this book; the prose is clean, and descriptive enough without being overdone; but there are issues with balance that prevented me from ranking it as high as I did the first.
