It's not the dubcon romance or dark thematic elements that disgusts me. I can handle a lot of dark in my urban fiction. In fact, I say bring it.No, it's the big load of stupid that the MC drags around her everywhere she goes. My eyes got lots of exercise from all the rolling that was going on. When Quinn enters Vamp City and meets love interest Arturo, she quickly trusts him because, darn it, she just can't help it. Even after he lies his face off and betrays her (again. And again. One more time. Last time, I promise. Haha, just kidding. One more time. Well hey, why keep count? Let's just keep it real and assume every time Arturo opens his mouth, some lies are gonna come out too. It's gonna happen. Don't fight it), she gets mad and says she's not gonna trust him again. But then, darn it all, her instincts tell her this guy is honorable and trustworthy, and even though she doesn't want to, she just can't help trusting him. And then the author tells her own whoppers and expects us to swallow it; things like "Trust didn't come easily to Quinn." Um, actually, maybe you haven't read the book, but the stupid girl never second guesses anyone, even the lying sac of blood who will say anything to get into her pants. For that reason alone, despite some cool world building, this gets .5 stars. Can't stand idiot MCs. I loved Quinn she was an amazing character. One full of love and passion and strength. I love the close bond that her and her brother have. I give this book a 5 Star rating because I loved the story line the plot and all. It was written amazingly. It's a different kind of supernatural book. I like that. I randomly bought this book and I am so glad that I did. I want to read more of this story. I was like okay what's the truth who's good who's not it kept me thinking and trying to solve the puzzle in Washington V.C.! I'm so ready to read more I can't wait. Quinn's adventure is one that I will never forget. It's really amazing and in my opinion all should read this book. :)
