One of the many perks of working in a library is that I come across certain books that I might not otherwise give a second glance. I was lucky enough to discover this one just that way. Let me say for sure, this book is not for everyone. There are certainly lots of heartbreaking moments. There are also some moments that take an imaginational stretch. I however really, really loved it. Facebook, online dating, super technology, a new way to deal with extremely hurtful losses and redefining families all combined with how far a person will go to make the one they love happy. Awesome and unusual! Always a pleasure to read Frankel - it's like having a story told to you by a good friend while you hang out at a coffee shop. Humorous, warm, realistic (even with a semi-non-realistic premise), Goodbye for Now explores the cross-section of data and emotion, truth and fiction. Grieving, getting over it, moving on, all the stages of mourning in their helpfulness or heartache are explored, as well as who feels what comfort when and how and why. Sam and Merde and Dash feel real, particularly in their foibles, though those can get annoying at times (as I think they are meant to). It's peculiar for a book about grieving to be so happy, but it is.
