Captain Malcolm Carlin was primarily raised by his father, Judge Marcus Carlin, after his mother left the Judge upon discovering his indiscretions. Mac's father brought him up with an iron fist and never, ever told or showed Mac any form of affection whatsoever. So as he grew into manhood, he hated his father. Mac has been married for several years and she too, as he was to discover, was nothing more than a money hungry person who showed Mac nothing by contempt. As Mac was prepared to deploy to Vietnam in the midst of war, he told his wife, Alice, upon his return he would file for a divorce. As Mac led his troops into the horrific scenes of the Vietnam war, throughout the atrocities all around him, Mac found true love. Nurse, Casey Adams fell hopelessly in love with Mac and they met any time they could both get leave and vowed after the war they would marry, buy a house with a white picket fence and get two dogs they would name, Fred and Gus. But Mac had not yet told Casey of his loveless marriage and as time passed, he promised himself to tell her everything when the met next. But suddenly tragedy struck. Would Mac get the chance to reveal the truth to Casey and if so, would she reject him for not being forthcoming right from the start. This was a thought that Mac just couldn't bear and hoped desperately the strength of their love will get them though this.
