I absolutely love this series and was happy to see at the end where Kinky gives her recipes that another book is in the works....have to wait until Nov. 2014 though before it's out! If you are interested in this book, I recommend that you start with the very first one, as each book builds on the previous book. The plot line isn't deep, but if you're looking for a pleasant series and wanting to know more about both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in the 1930's through the 1960's or if you are a fan of "Call the Midwife" series shown on BBC or PBS in the US, I highly recommend this series. This is another delightful tale in the "Irish Doctor" series by Dr Patrick Taylor, who is himself an Irish doctor. The book details the life of Dr O'Reilly in the 1930's and 1960's by providing alternate chapters so that his life and also the state of medicine can be examined and compared. A glossary of "Irish" English is included which is most helpful in understanding the many vernacular terms that are used.Dr Taylor indicates at the end of this book that he will begin writing the next book (#9) very soon.I have not read all of the books in this series. Guess that I should read the earlier books before the release of #9.I very much enjoy these sagas that take place in small communities. I also enjoyed learning a great deal about the history and politics of Ireland.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It isn't the best in the series but a fun read nonetheless.
