About book Deadly Descendent (2012)

Less happened in this one, but at the same time OH SO MUCH MORE happened.Emma was an effing bitch that I wanted to kill myself. Yeah she went through some horrible stuff, but oh my god she was unreasonable when it came to Nikki which was really annoying. I disliked how we never got an answer as to what set her against Nikki, other than just her mere presence. I'm sorry but if a woman is so insecure that she can't have other women around her husband without automatically assuming that woman is a threat, than that woman has a much bigger problem with herself, and her relationship with her husband.Jamal was interesting seeing his history.Anderson was a bit blind regarding Emma, but that's understandable. Nearly 10 years of blinding hoping, and building a picture of what he thought their relationship was will do that. There was more development with Blake, even though he was in the story less.Jack (Loki's child) got a bit more action, as well as a few other of the god children. I like Jack. He was the real hero and once again reminds me that not all things involving Loki are bad.I will read the next one. I really enjoyed it and definitely want more from this series. But I do have a few things to be picky about (honestly, I can find faults with nearly every book I enjoy)...1) I don't think the antagonist plot for this book was well thought out. It was boring and didn't intrigue me at all. Something was missing. Also there was not enough action or mystery.2) Nikki annoyed me a little bit this time around. She pried too much - especially with Blake at the end. Sticking her nose in where it's not needed. 3) I'm not sure if this happened in the first book as well, but for some reason Jenna Black/Nikki describes her actions as feminine when really they're just human. i.e. "feminine instinct" to reach out and touch Jamaal in comfort and "feminine curiosity" about what his room looked like.. hmm.. I don't see what's especially feminine about either of those things. Emotion, compassion and curiosity are not feminine?4) Anderson... bores me? Like okay I get it, big bad scary dude with a secret who walks around acting like a normal, nice guy. Cool story bro. He doesn't really DO much. He's just there and throws some threats around and comes up with a mediocre plan here and there. Blah.HOWEVER,despite my complaining I definitely liked the progression with Jamaal - not just his relationship with Nikki but his back story too. I hope to see a lot more of him.I think the other Liberi need more involvement. Especially Maggie (who shouldn't just be stuck in the role of "only other female in the house who is nice to Nikki sometimes") and Jack (who needs to be given more depth than "smirking trickster").I also want to see more of all the "superpowers" and such like. It feels a bit like we're blindfolded at an all you can eat buffet at the moment - we know there's so much to explore in this world of liberi and olympians and gods but all we're getting is a quick whiff.
