About book Camp Hell (2008)

Once again I am awestruck with this series. I can not step away from it. This time Vic delves deep into the secrets of Camp Hell, the place where those with psychic abilities are detained(?) to research their abilities and train them. Vic starts down this road when he runs into his past in the form of Stefan, past cohort and lover. While trying to discover the source of the high mortality rate at a local hospital, much is revealed about Vic's past and present. This time the story is packed with revelations, and a surprise concerning Jacob. It is fun, sexy and an exercise on paranoia. This is my drug of choice for my reading soul. Great, great series In Camp Hell, the fifth instalment of the Psycop series Vic is trying to remember his time in Camp Hell, and in order to do so he tracks and gets in touch with a former mate/lover from the institution: Stefan Russeau, a powerful empath. With his help, Vic goes through several hypnotic regressions which give us glimpses of how his life was at that time, and why he repressed almost all his memories of his stay there. At the same time, Vic works in a challenging case in a hospital where the death rate is suspiciously high. Besides, to make things worse, Vic discovers that he is being controlled by the FPMP, which seems to be shadowing him and getting detailed reports on his daily activity. This espionage makes Vic’s paranoia go off the charts. His inability to face his fears and talk things over dangerously stresses his relationship with Jacob. When it seems that things cannot get worse, Vic is force to confront a really pissed ghost.Vic really goes through a very difficult time in this book. He needs to remember in order to go on. He must understand his powers, and to do it, he has to recover as much as he can from his time in Camp Hell. He is unhappy and suffering, and I feared for his relationship with Jacob, whose emotional stamina seems to waver by the middle of the book. But once Vic decides to come clear and tell Jacob everything, his fears and suspicions, they are able to get over it and their relationship is even reinforced. I really like Jacob, his strength and ability to look after Vic, who is a sweet disaster. Vic’s head is messed up, but it is an enjoyable kind of mess… though in this book I missed Vic’s sense of humour. Too much anguish, not much space for irony here. I hope next book recovers Vic’s sarcasm, which I absolutely enjoy. Moving on to the next book. I am completely hooked on this series!
