I waited a long time before I read this story because like a dummy I didn't think I'd like a book by Beverly Jenkins...I know I know! You can unclutch your pearls now! This book set the stage for a wonderful series but the best thing is that there is no lag or doldrums where she had to give the character's back stories. It was all very well written and hilariously funny with tear-jerker moments. I absolutely loved Bring on the Blessings & the Blessings series! This was a kindle freebie, so after reading a brief description of the story, I grabbed it. I'm an adoptive mom & stories about foster care/adoption appeal to me. I'd give this 3 stars if the editing had been better, but there were a few instances when the wrong character's name appeared in a scene, causing momentary confusion. Hopefully the print edition fared better.Despite the serious subject matter, Jenkins handles the story with a lot of humor & heart, making it a light, easy read. Her characters are warm & relatable, but it's perhaps just a smudge too easy for Bernadine (our protagonist) to make things all better by whipping out her credit card. Still, a fun & humorous, if not terribly realistic, look at foster/adopt reform & the beauty that comes when strangers become family.
Do You like book Bring On The Blessings (2009)?
Really liked the characters & the storyline, but it didn't really go anywhere...
