This was so much better than the first by a long shot, but in some ways it could just be so stupid at times.The action was the best part of this book and was the entire reason I liked it. Whenever they were fighting I was just cheering somewhere in my mind and felt so happy. It was probably one of the only parts that I liked about the book so far. Before I had it as five stars, but I changed due to a few things that I realized really started to irritate me later.The drinking in the book was the thing that got me the most. Normally I don't really care about underage drinking. I just think, "Ha, ha ha! You're going to get brain damaged and I'm not." Unfortunately it had it so many times like it was a regular thing to do. Are they trying to wreck their brains because they think it's cool to do so? I mean in Buffy she drinks but she doesn't do it like Ellie does on a regular day basis. The scene that annoyed me the most about this book is when she goes to the frat party with the college boys. She gets drunk along with them and her friend, Kate. You shouldn't be dumb enough to get drunk at a frat party with a boy who's trying to bang you. Well Ellie does and the boy tries to rape her, but somehow all her power is gone and she can't fight him at all. The pathetic thing is that Will has to save her and take her home. Later on they still play around with beer. Dude, if you had a problem with it once don't go near it again!The romance was the other thing that sometimes got me. I'll be honest, I hate romance novels, not so much that I won't read them at all, as you can see I have some in my favorites shelf. I just don't really like how authors get too crazy with the romance and make it all about that instead of all the other important stuff. It's like hey we're glad their together, now can we get back to the actual story? Will and Ellie seem to yearn for each other which I found myself comparing to books like the Mortal Instruments. I just didn't really care if they got together or not and when they did it was rather boring and cheesy. It seems like all romance books always have to lead to intimacy these days which just felt so unoriginal and stupid.Overall this wasn't a terrible book, but I can't really say that I loved it. The characters were alright, I didn't really care much about some death, but it wasn't a bad book. There were some things that couldn't been done better, but I did like it even though this serves as more of a negative review. Recommended [return][return]Wings of the Wicked is the second book in the Angelfire trilogy. Ellie and Will are back to continue their fight against evil. Ellie is struggling to maintain her old life at home and at school. She is trying to keep the relationship with Will professional and friendly. The reader can see that they are totally attracted to each other. Will continues to teach Ellie how to fight. She has gotten really good at calling her angelfire swords to kill evil reapers.[return][return]Cadan, an evil reaper, finds Ellie and instead of trying to kill her, he gives her valuable information. Ellie does not know what to make of this, but she does feel that she can trust him even though everyone around her not to. Ellie is beginning to get more and more of her old memories back. Will is introducing her to her new “old” friends that she has known for hundreds of years. Ellie is also discovering a power that she does not remember having before. The feelings between Ellie and Will grow stronger as they hunt together each night. During one of their last battles towards the end of the book, Will gets attacked by a Rikken and he slowly starts to die as the poison invades his body. Ellie realizes she will do anything for Will. Readers will have to wait until the third book for the conclusion.[return][return]The professional reviews are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Kirkus says this book is [return]“extreme…emo…and silly” and VOYA says its “gripping”. I would definitely put this book in the middle. It’s supposed to be a fun, romantic, adventure, paranormal story. I think it makes a good YA/adult read. When I first started the series, I was skeptical because of the reviews. However, when I couldn’t put the books down and finished the entire trilogy in one weekend; I was captivated. I am really enjoying this series.[return][return]I think this is a good buy for school libraries that have readers who enjoy urban fantasy, paranormal action/adventure/romance. Cadan, Will and Ellie make up a love triangle. Kate, Ellie’s best friend and Marcus also provide a romantic arc. It’s a pretty long book for a YA novel, but I think that most readers would be hooked by the first book. Angelfire would be good for a book club choice and then having the 2nd and 3rd book in the library would be a good idea for those wanting to finish the trilogy. I would put this book on a paranormal or angel themed book display. I would also include this book in a Michigan authors display or book talk. Students in my school will love reading about the metro Detroit area in a YA fiction book.

I lost count of how many times I face palmed seriously this is gotta be one of the worst book I've read all year.The characters are shitty, I cant find a damn thing to like about Ellie, she lacks the core I find in other heroines. Yeah I understand if your life is in disarray you want to keep a semblance of normalcy but she took it too far its ridiculous. All I hear is Party this party that, the fucking party overshadows the whole point of the book. Very little Character development is seen, she is still a whiny brat, at least i tolerated her better in the first book. An angel God's right hand? ha fucking ha, the rare glimpses we get into her old life is the only thing interesting about the book. At least then, she acted like someone with purpose not a whiny brat.I could keep on ranting about her but thats a waste of energy. Will is so cliché, its funny,like every boyfriend from every paranormal book he has to be broody and overly handsome and mysterious with lack of depth. Kate is just blah, yeah its high school that doesn't mean all you have to think about is boys.Marcus, the only person I actually tolerate, I really wanted to know more about him and I was disappointed as always.Lauren, seriously who hates chocolate chips??There are so many things about this book that's so cliché, it gets tiring after reading tons and tons of YA paranormal and they all start to sound like each other. you feel like you are reading the same story with just different characters and settings. I really wanna read something original, authors think about it huh?

In the second book of the Angelfire series, Ellie must face old and new issues alike.She discovers that it's very hard to slay reapers while keeping her good grades up. Bastian is chasing after her. She must hide her new life from her loved ones. She has to figure out what being Gabriel means. And, of course, she tries to get Will to go out with her. As with the first book, the events here are very random and there is no obvious problem or struggle. There are alot of potentially interesting plot twists, but it seems as is there are too many of them, and none are developed into something bigger.The pieces of the story-line don't fit together, and some were really obvious. They were so plain to see that I knew they were coming ever since the beginning of book one. However, as a said before,there are some compelling parts to the plot, which makes Wings of the Wicked about a million times better than Angelfire. Also, the romance here starts to get less boring than it was in Angelfire. I haven't decided if I like that, as I've read far too many love triangles in the past year. When I think about it, it's not really a love triangle, it's more like a rejection, but it still makes the story better.This book, though highly addictive, is not that good. If you're in the mood for a fun read, I would definitely recommend it, but otherwise, I would tell you to pick something else. It really reminds me of the The Selection Trilogy, by Kiera Cass, because you can't put it down, but you still don't like it that much.
