3-3.5 stars...Good, but not great...I had heard a lot about Ms James fairy-tale retelling romances and when I saw this on the libraries audio collection, I gave it a try. I liked it and it had some humor. I liked the Cinderella-y parts of the story. She did a great job at reinventing the timeless fairy tale. I still prefer Julia Quinn's historical/humor romance novels over most any I've read in the genre. This one is worth a try for those who like historical romances or light fairy tale retellings. I want to try a few more of the fairy tale retellings myself. A few steamy scenes towards the end I was able to skip on the audio... Audio Version: I must say there is a lot to love about this modern-day spin on Cinderella. Kate isn't what you expect when you think of Cinderella; she is strong, intelligent, practical and saucy to boot. There is only one stepsister and fortunately she is not a mean harpy but a sweet girl who is in love. The fairy god mother was one of my favorite characters in the book. I don't think anyone could have asked for a better fg. I really liked Prince Gabriel as well. He was funny, romantic and had a stout sense of honor. The story kept me engaged and I often found myself smiling. I highly recommend this one. ♥
