Arthur knows how to paint, and is he is ready to share his wisdom with Max, who is not such a great painter (despite what he thinks). Max has a lot to learn and is he very eager to learn and is just willing to dive right in. When Arthur tells Max to paint him, he physical paints him instead of the paper. Finally, Arthur gets Max to paint it correctly, and it's a magical experience. This book is a great example of the way Wiesner writes and draws. With a lot of drapery (the balance of dark and light colors), you can see the way that the story is going to flow. With the great framing of pictures, the pictures are saying a lot more than the pictures are. This is one of those books that you have to read the pictures and the words to fully understand. Book Review: Art and Max “Art and Max”, by David Wiesner is a great story that describes the elements of friendship and how it is very significant. The story is about a lizard named Art, who is an advanced artist or painter, and his fellow lizard friend Max who is trying to learn how to paint. So Art gives Max the task of painting himself, Art takes it the totally wrong way. Max ends up painting Art with acrylics, and Art is very upset with Max’s performance. Although Max has some things to work on, he I quickly grasping on to what is being taught to him. Throughout all the troubles Max creates a project that would become truly inspired and a piece that Art approves. This story shows that even though your friends seem to mess up and you may not approve. You must be patient with them and understand why they reacted in such a way, because we don’t all have the same way of thinking. The illustrations in the story are very appealing, and they show off different varieties of the artistic field such as acrylic paint, watercolor and line drawing. This book also focused on the creative process of painting and what it takes. This book can be great for family discussions if their children are into the art field and what to do something with art. -Chance Murray
