This story was a truly original adventure, with a world that at first looked like a dystopia but turned out to be different, creative dialog, action-packed it kept surprising me chapter after chapter. The author indicated in the book that this was one of her first releases and that she unpublished it to later edit it, but decided to preserve many parts of the original manuscript, which explains the 'first book' feeling about it. The story had holes, and I had to suspend disbelief a few times, but I’ll remember this love story for a long time. HERO has been the Leader of the Gray Team for a few centuries, winner of most of the battles played since, and in the last decade has been facing the leader of the Red Team, a young, beautiful woman who’s not only a worthy rival but a woman he’s very attracted to.SCENES/CONTENT: one/hotGENRE/TONE: fantasy/actionLENGTH: 202 pages This is the story of Victor Black and Victoria Red. The story is set in a place where all the characters are secluded from the whole world. Inside these walls, they have a life that is control by the Game Master and they spend their loooooong lives playing "the game". Victor Black has been the leader of the Grey Team for 400 years, while Victoria Red is the team leader of the Reds for only 15 years. They play "the game" but question themselves what it is for. And so the quest for the truth starts. At first I didnt want to read it because I thought the setting would be in some Casino (seeing that the book cover was a pair of dice). I was surprised that it was far from my initial thought. In fact, it sort of remind me of the Hunger Games series but with older participants, with supernatural abilities of the characters, and with the appearances of gods?I've always known HKW as a vampire or werewolf or other supes writer. So this is quite different for her. But I actually enjoyed it. So 4 stars
