Zombelina dances...well...like a zombie, swaying and moaning, boogying with bats. When she is sent to a proper ballet school, the human girls instantly dislike her. (Maybe because she's a zombie and will probably eat their brains but that's beside the point.) The look of revulsion on their faces(raised eyebrows, tongues sticking out, gagging) says it all. At least that's the only explanation I can find about why the story ended the way it did. I guess I had expected a story about tolerance from classmates rather than "freaks of a feather flock together." Or run back to your family? I do like the rhyme and the play on words as a redeeming factor. Zombies are the new big thing! This was a cute read, definitely fun for a Halloween storytime/program. I liked that all the ballerinas were a normal, healthy size! Very refreshing. It reminded me of Vampirina Ballerina by Ann Marie Pace.Wouldn't recommend it for any child under 4, but depends on the maturity of the child. Some kids will be able to chuckle at this and it might scare others when her limbs come off.
