About book Zita The Spacegirl, Book One: Far From Home (2011)
Highly entertaining. Zita and her friend Joseph find a button at the bottom of the crater, so naturally, what does Zita do? Pushes the button! This sends Joseph into a portal, so Zita pushes the button again to get in to save him. Only, she discovers that Joseph has been kidnapped by a tentacle, helmet-wearing monster. Zita teams up with a giant mouse, two robots, and a space traveller named Piper to save Joseph. Hilarity and imagination ensue. Artwork: Good (sometimes simple is better)Story: Very GoodChildren to 'tweens: highly recommendedYoung Adults: recommendedAdults: enjoyableZita has a special charm, without being cutesy. The story is a rescue mission brought on by the consequences of her impulsiveness. Her growing sense of "doing the right thing" is key to its resolution, because it affects many around her. Nothing new in either the art or the story, but well done.
