Oh Jill Shalvis. I always love you, always. Why can’t you write more sports romance? (Because I’m on a sports kick, and I’d love more from you!)Slow Heat is your typical romance, you have a hot guy – tortured by his past. You have a girl with her own hangups. You have some serious chemistry. And then you have romantic tension, and people getting in their way. Then? You finally have your Happily Ever After. But it’s also more. See, there is Wade – who you can’t help but love. (And being inside his head is phenomenal.) He had a crappy childhood, but now he’s rich and famous and he tries to fix everything by writing a check. He sends money to his dad, his charities, etc, etc. But he can’t fix everything that way, and Sam – the Publicist for the Heat Baseball Franchise- is here to help him learn this. Toss in an adorable kid,a great set of friends and an alcoholic father? You’ve got one awesome story! Now if you’ve never read a Jill Shalvis book, I feel the need to tell you this. She grabs you. She grabs your heart. and she makes you fall madly in love with the characters. Her words are a perfect escape, and you will never regret having read them. Wade O'Reily is the catcher for the Heat and is linked with numerous women, giving him a player reputation. Sam McNead is the PR publicist for the Heat and the daughter of one of the owners on the team. After a scandalous rumor in which he was having a lovechild with a one night stand, management decided that to fix his player image by pairing him with Sam as a make believe couple for a month. Sam and Wade has a fling a couple months back, something they wished would not repeat even though secretly it was the best sex they ever had. But as they spend more time with each other during the one month they were supposed to play boyfriend and girlfriend, they found out that the fling is not the only thing that stands in their way of something real. What I like about this is story is the way it is light, easy and although not the best I've ever read, it's still one of my favorites. I love the way Wade take everything lightly yet inside, he has this inner turmoil which he was not ready to face. As for Sam, she has this somewhat perfectionist attitude. Everything has to go her way, everything has to stick to schedule. When two people with characteristics of the opposite side of a polar, you know it is about to go down. There isn't any angst, any intense moments yet of all the light reads I've read this year, this is definitely the best.
