About book Wilde's Fire (2012)

Deja vu? NO!!!! Termina abruptamente. There were several things that I didn't like about this book with the main thing being it was SLOW! I was 60% through the book before it started to get interesting. That's over halfway through!***SPOILER ALERT*** I didn't really care for the characters either. I couldn't stand Brad. He was just taking up space and slowing the story down. I was actually ready for him to just die. I found the speech in this book to be very formal and sometimes awkward. I can understand Arland and the other people from his world having a more formal speech but at times Kate also spoke like that. It didn't seem realistic. There were also times when I thought she acted a bit childish. Kate and Arland's relationship really bothered me. I can understand her feelings for him because she has been dreaming of him for years but I just find their relationship to be very weird. At first you can't really tell how Arland feels about her and she's wondering if he feels the same way she does but then it becomes obvious that he cares for her. He holds her hand and pulls her close for her to lay her head on his chest but she's still wondering if he has feelings for her. I don't like the fact that they take baths together. Especially since neither of them have confessed their feelings to one another. Who would do that?! Then when she finally figures out how he feels and they share their first kiss, their relationship moves to the fast track. They share their first kiss and then almost have sex in the same day when all this time they have just held hands and haven't even spoken of their feelings. I just found their relationship to be very odd. There were a couple of things that didn't make sense to me. For instance, why doesn't anyone question who Brad is or why he's there. Brad does not sound like a name from there world and surely someone has noticed a dying guy in one of the rooms. If people noticed that Arland and Kate were sleeping in the same room then why wouldn't they notice Brad being there. I also don't like how Kate controls and commands her power. I don't understand the sprites. I don't like how she just tells them to do something and they show up and do it. I don't like how she pleads in her head for the old magic to help her. I feel like there should be more to her powers and how they manifest.I did enjoy the book more towards the end so I may possibly read the second one but I haven't decided yet. You can tell that this was a debut novel but maybe the second one is better.
