About book Wild Orchid: A Retelling Of "The Ballad Of Mulan" (2009)
Im always looking for a good retelling of a Disney story; so when I found this one (a retelling),I immediately took a hold of it.I would say this is a pretty decent retelling of Mulan. It made me think beyond the actual character "Mulan" that we've all seem to think we know from the Disney movie. From this book, I've learned her true family history, why she was named Mulan, and above all that her real dream in life.It is a story many people can relate to.Not the actual part of fighting a war for their father but, finding yourself and making your loved ones proud. I wished the author wouldn't spend so much time on a single portion of the book; but instead of adding the same amount of detail to every scene. But other then that I enjoyed reading The Wild Orchid:A Retelling of "The Ballad Of Mulan". Cameron Dokey's books either seem to be very interesting or boring, and never anything between. This one was dull. The major problem with this book is that the character's are mostly bland and very general kinds of characters, the generic heroine, the generic best friend, and the generic brooding father for example. The romance is very poorly executed, it's actually virtually not there.I love the story of Mulan, but this was not a good retelling.
