Good read for anyone interested in macroeconomics. This is the author's analysis of how we got to the "haves" and "have nots" and does show a little bias towards a liberal lean. However, as a fiscal conservative, I thoroughly enjoyed the book for its content, as I always take a grain of salt when I read. This approach allows me to explore subjects with a open mind, whether I agree or not with the author. A lot of facts are presented, which I appreciate, although I don't agree with the conclusions. Easy to read for the content covered, and well-written. The premise of this book -- that American business has changed massively and that the middle class has been systematically robbed of status and opportunity because of business management practices and lobbying efforts is extremely well documented in Hedrick Smith's book. It is dismaying to read and actually so depressing (juxtaposed as it is with current realities). Smith does a great job of presenting the story but I felt like he repeated his case too much and since it was a disheartening case, I gave up on the book. In the end he does offer some suggesting for improvement, but I didn't get there :-0.
