About book Was Schenkt Man Einem Schattenjäger, Der Schon Alles Hat?: Die Chroniken Des Magnus Bane (2014)
This is Cassandra Clare at her best. In my opinion, she excels when she's letting her wildly colorful cast of characters have fun. That's what this story was: fun. There were several heartwarming moments as well (Magnus' gift for Alec was truly meaningful and emphasized the sense of understanding that made their relationship great), and it was fantastic to see the characters as they were when I fell in love with them in the first place. Pleasant surprise to get a new book from a pre-order!!!This book is set between City of Ashes and City of Glass, when Magnus isn't sure if he's dating Alec Lightwood or not. Alec is turning 18, and Magnus struggles with what birthday gift to get for Alec. It's bittersweet in showing us Magnus' POV about this romance that is still in very early stages. Magnus has a lifetime of experience with loving and losing, so he can see the difficulties in this relationship - not only between a Downworlder and a Shadowhunter, but the lack of acceptance of male-male relationships in the Shadowhunter/human world. The clever gift that Magnus comes up with... except does Alec ever know? And the ending - wow, tugged my heart strings major! Love it!
