Who doesn't like a healthy dose of espionage? I believe that spreading this book out at I was forced to do did not do it justice, and if I had committed a bit more fully to it I would not have felt that the story was dragging in parts. Which, sadly, I did feel. There were many things I did enjoy about it, not the least of which was that Sira and I lived on the same street in Madrid, what a happy coincidence! Do not approach it distractedly as I did. *SPOILERHonestly, I didn't like it: I hated Rosalinda Fox's many English expressions in her speeches (I read an Italian edition), it sounds really unnatural.But also in a lot of passages I thought I was reading a theatral script instead of a book: there are too many lines describing useless parts (such as pleasantries)Then, I didn't like the way the Author sketched some characters (i.e. Beigbeder), and I have believed for the whole book that Ramiro had cropped up somewhere and finally we could have known what he did with Sira's worth. But over all I found irriting the ending: really unbelievable.It is too long (over 600 pages) for a story that, honestly, could have been written in less than half pages. What a pity! The elements for a really good book there were (the exotic mood of Morocco, the Civil War in Spain, but also the commercial negotians for WWII or the new Sira's job as spy): no doubt, it could had been written better.
