This book was a complete surprise to me! I had no idea this book was coming (which was the point obviously). In this book we got the back story that we needed to fully understand the actions, behaviors, and choices that were made in Very Wicked Things. This book shows us how Dovey and Cuba meet. When Cuba first saw Dovey dance it was love at first sight, which we all knew, but of course he didn't get the idea through his thick skull until a little later, which is okay. This book was a great addition to this series, and I hope we see more like it in the future. I really enjoy novellas because they give you that extra look into the lives of the characters and maybe explain some of the more obvious whys behind everything. You don't have to read this in order to read Very Wicked Things, but if you're like me and want to get your hands on every possible book in the series, I would recommend it. 4.5 Stars!Review: This is a prequel for Very Wicked Things, the second book in the Briarcrest Academy series. It provides some back story on where Cuba and Dovey's relationship starts during their junior year of high school. Dovey is from Ratcliffe, the poor side of town, and Cuba is from Highland Park, the rich area of town. They appear to be world's apart, yet they are both drawn to one another. Dovey has come a long way to make it to Briarcrest, and she is a scholarship student, so she gets overlooked a lot. Cuba notices her one day, while she is at dance practice. He gets knocked down at football practice because he is so mesmerized by her. He begins to pursue her, and, even though she knows that it is a bad idea, you can tell that she is slowly weakening towards him. This book is pretty short, and it ends by leaving it up in the air if Dovey gives in to Cuba, so you have to read book 2 to find out what happens next!Jessica
