The conceit of this short novel is that the story we are reading actually becomes a book written by the heroine, Jenna. We are told that it is a story that she poured her heart and soul into and how she laughed and cried as she read her own manuscript and how her agent assured her it would be a bestseller. All I could think is, "Wow, Cat Johnson, that is so embarrassing.""Unridden" is nothing like the amazing book that the fictional Jenna wrote. It is a superficial tale, lacking in emotional depth, character insight or a credible relationship arc. Even the sex scenes were uncomfortable because they were almost entirely through the eyes of one of the male characters, Slade, who spent the entire time wishing his friend, Mustang wasn't there and resenting everything he did with Jenna. We never learn why Slade and Mustang are friends, much less why they share women. I was mildly entertained through the first third of the book, but then I really had to force myself to finish it. The ending was almost nonsensical, vaguely creepy in its implications and seemed to have been pulled out of thin air given the run up. 3.5 starsCute and sweet...my my, I've evolved since my first ER read. Since when an ER is cute and sweet? I meant it in a good way, the characters and plot were cute and sweet...simple storyline with simple resolution, mixed with lots of hot scenes. It's hot and captured my attention enough to keep me on the elliptical for 20 miles over 4 days resulting 2 pounds loss, woohoo!
