About book Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester At America's Holiest University (2010)

This is a well-written and thought-provoking book. We just had a book club discussion on it and the responses were overwhelmingly positive. The author took his experience at Liberty University very seriously and approached it with an open mind. This young man will go far and make a huge impact as a journalist. I especially liked the way he spoke of the friends that he made at Liberty and how willing he was to learn as much as he could about the students and the culture without being judgmental. "William James said that the value of a religion lies in its usefulness to the believer, not in the truthfulness of its supernatural claims.""...one of the most humanizing things I’ve learned this semester is that even at Liberty, personality trumps ideology."This was a fresh look at an ultra conservative religious college. Through the diverse cast of characters we see that there is much more to the label of conservative Christian. The world is not black and white. It is colorful.
