Muuuuuuch better than the first book. Charlie's now trying to juggle her powers, etc. She's kind of meh for me. Maybe it's bc she's a cop? And I hate cops irl. I like her relationship w her daughter; it seems like it's realistic w their mom/daughter fight(s). Shes got a little bit of Spider in her and the author loves to recap to the eyeballs,. so youve got to skim those parts. More Hank = me likey. Some of the details/background history about Solomon bored/lost me. Charlie's a little prudish for a cop; in the first book it was fine but she's known Hank forever now and as a cop, I'm sure she's had to be in coed situations before. Get over it. The whole thing with Rex is great - it's such a complex relationship/story that I'm looking forward to the next book. I also would like to read more a out Bryn, Aaron and Emma. Thumbs up from me. Good story. Love the world Kelly created. Curious to see if Charlie and Hank will ever connect. I love the tension between them. Seemed like there was a lot of details that were brought up but not really used or discussed later on. It was as if Kelly is preparing us for something in another book. At least, that's the feeling I got. Especially as I read about Emma and her powers. We don't know much about them and what all she can do. That's just one example.I really like this series. It's action packed. Love the characters. Love the dark world and the unique creatures.
The second book in the Charlie Madigan series was a good read, but not quite as good as the first IMO. The story kept my attention throughout but just didn't seem to flow as smoothly as in the first book - which might have something to do with the fact that certain characters (Hank and Emma *ahem*) annoyed the hell out of me with their erratic and highly irritating behaviour in a few places. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to seeing Charlie's story continue as I really like the worldbuilding in it.

I enjoyed this one the same as book 1, but not enough. This book would have been a 3 or more, had the author developed Charlie and Hank more. Yes, there sexual tension seemed to ratchet up for a second, but then it was gone. I need some romance to balance the darkness of this book.Good points: Emma knows the truth about her dad. Also, big sister kicks Ash habit.I may read book 3 but not any time soon
