Marketed as a Christmas story, I found Christmas to be incidental and that this tale could have been set at any time of year. What I liked about that was that it meant this story didn't fall into the sentimentality that plagues seasonal reads. It was an interesting idea - a woman stops and recoups following a crisis, finding herself again in every day tasks. I think the idea could have been further developed, even within the short story format, to make this a more satisfying read. Still, it wasn't bad and bonus points because it didnt make me roll my eyes as many Christmas related stories seem to. Binny needs to sort out Christmas for her children in about half a day. She does not want to do it because she can barely find the energy or the willpower to put one foot in front of the other because Oliver has walked out on her. She goes into a shop very much at random to avoid talking to someone and unlikely as it seems she may just have come to the right place.I enjoyed this quirky short story which as well as being entertaining reading has some good advice for when you’re struggling to cope with an emotional problem. Quickly read but worthwhile.

This bite sized read was lovely and perfectly timed to be read in the busy Christmas season.

Think I'm the wrong demographic of this short story but well written.
