About book Turkey Day Murder (2002)

Resident amateur sleuth Lucy Stone has a lot on her plate this Thanksgiving... Besides fixing dinner for 12, having to come up with something suitable for two vegan college kids to eat, write for the pennysaver, and deal with her chauvinistic boss, she also has a murder to solve!Curt Nolan and his chicken murderer of a dog are hardly welcome in small town Tinker's Cove, making his murder next to impossible to solve. Everyone is suspect! Lucy puts her journalistic skills to work and gets a bit too close to the killer... Maybe she should of listened to her boss and stayed home to cook and clean for her family? But, then she just wouldn't be the Lucy Stone everyone loves! There is a lot to like about this small town murder mystery, Turkey Day Murder, by Leslie Meier. Lucy Stone is very likable, and her antics are hilarious! This was my first Lucy Stone mystery, but it won't be my last. I already have my eye on the sixth Lucy Stone mystery, "Christmas Cookie Murder".Fans of murder mysteries and holiday stories alike will enjoy this book. I gave it four stars!

This time the topic is casinos. Lucy is writing a feature story for the Pennysaver regarding this subject, and while doing research for the article, she discovers that the town is split as to whether they want a casino or not. The economy has been tough for the residents of Tinker's Cove, and Lucy knows that a casino will add jobs to a struggling economy. But she also knows that gambling can be a hard addiction for some, and she worries that her town will never be the same again if a casino is added to her sleepy town. I have really enjoyed all of the books in the Lucy Stone series. Reading them in order, I have watched Lucy's children grow, and have also glimpsed a change in the relationship between herself and her husband, Bill. In previous books, Bill has been portrayed as a grouchy, demanding husband. However, in this book, he was a bit more understanding...a welcome change to the series. Her kids, however, seemed a lot more whiney and unappreciative. I look forward to reading more Lucy Stone mysteries for years to come!

This year's quest has been to read holiday related books. So, since it's now November, it is time to break out the Thanksgiving books! This was a pretty standard mystery. Lucy Stone is a local reporter in a small New England town. The town is having some internal struggles. The local Native Americans are lobbying to become recognized as a tribe so that they can build a huge new casino. There is very little of their history left - only one war club to mark the tribe's exisitence. Some of the town supports the casino and the boost it would give to the local economy, and some like the small town just the way it is. The dispute results in one of the Mettinnicut Indians being killed at a Thanksgiving day football game, his brain smashed in with the priceless war club. He often got into arguments, so the suspects include almost everyone in town. Lucy uses her reputation as a reporter to get people to talk to her, and tries to solve the mystery.
