A very disturbing post-apocalyptic story, that takes us on a several year journey of "The Man" after the collapse of our financial structure. Some of the things that were mentioned " to cut costs" like emptying out the prisons of Non- violent criminals, ( murders fit) but spousal abusers, rapist, don't fit into that category! Are already or have already started to happen in some states!!! We are taken on this journey through one state after another as The Man is in search of family, only to have his quest met by all different types of folks, and situations, while he struggles to remain true to who he is, and to his faith, and even to his oath he took in his job. He comes across a boy that was an orphan, the man was present when his mother was dying, she pleaded for the man to take care of her boy, and in the following years we go with him and Joshua, as they are faced now with situations that the man discovers he will have to step out of his beliefs, opinions, and what comfort zone he has left to give the boy and himself a fighting chance@survival. Great read! I debated rating this book 3 stars, but found something (I can't put my finger on what) about it to be compelling and ended up deciding on a 4 star rating. Despite a few editing errors, the story grew on me and I thought the second half of the book was stronger than the first. I've read a number of post apocalyptic books and thought the descriptive language and narrative writing style were unique. I've already downloaded the sequel to this book and look forward to reading it.
