Fun and light, I came to this series as a romance reader, not a science fiction reader (though I do read her sister genre, fantasy). I got exactly what I was expecting, with a little bit extra - off the wall PNR with a dash of sci-fi. People, this is not "Wuthering heights" or Honor Harrington - it's a lose-yourself-for-a-couple-of-hours book with a fun heroine, great-looking guys and an interesting story. This is one of those books that people seem to either love or hate. I was torn somewhere between the two. On the one hand, the snarkiness made me laugh (long, out loud, and hard). On the other hand, there was too much infodump in the beginning, the sex was really poorly written (just shy of purple prose, blech), the science was not very science-y, and the main character was a know-it-all in the vein of Sherlock Holmes (the book character, not the TV character; as in, nothing was ever explained or clued in, she just knew all this stuff no one else had ever picked up on). Also, seriously, the MC spent about five minutes deciding whether or not she "loved" Martini during a relationship that had lasted all of a week from page one to "The end." I'm not a huge fan of InstaLove. Ok, yup, there were a lot of problems with this one, but still, it made me laugh, and for that, I'm willing to overlook a lot of other flaws. For the first novel in a series, the author did ok. I'm more than willing to try the next book, especially if Christopher is the main love interest.
