About book Tiramisú Al Ron (2012)

I just can't get enough of Milly Johnson books at the moment, I finished this is one night, and it's not that the writing is particularly fab, its more that the characters are sooo interesting and lovely. I must admit, my favourite Characters in this book were Ven and Olive, they were just genuine people and I felt alot for them, so glad Olive didn't go back to David, she deserved some much. I didn't like Roz, until the end, I thought she so up herself and played the sympathy card too much because of the way men had treat her, but Olive rarely complained. I was especially pleased withManus, when he the perfect chance to cheat he didn't, so I really respected him. 'Here Come the Girls' is a story of four women, friends from childhood, who embark on their dream holiday; a Mediterranean cruise. Each one of them is fraught with their own problems which they all hope to run away from, but end up being forced to encounter head on, and resolve. Comedic, warm and down-to-earth, Johnson's books are like a hot brew and a bar of Galaxy chocolate. It's that "Ahhh" moment when you curl up in the armchair at the end of a stressful day; the Other Half's gone out, you can turn off the continuous background of Sky Sports, sit back and indulge. 'Here Come the Girls' is fabulously OTT, and in a very good way; Johnson's novels are perfect examples of escapism. Whilst mostly, purposefully, happy and cheerful, Johnson has a brilliant ability of getting the reader to genuinely dislike the 'villains' and to root for our heroes and heroines. Her books also have an underlying mystery throughout; rarely alluded to and unveiled in the latter pages of the book (in the case of 'Here Come the Girls', I was pleased to note that the revelation appeared on pg. 444 - 4 being the girls' lucky number). Johnson provides such beautiful imagery of the cruise ship and its ports of call, including Venice, Korcula and Cephalonia that you yourself feel you've joined the girls on holiday and there is a definite come-down for both the reader and the characters when we arrive back in Southampton. You start to wonder whether all the relationships and new starts found on board will survive in the 'real world', just like any other holiday. I'd like to give this book 3 and a half stars out of 5 as I don't feel 3 is enough, but yet it isn't my favourite of Milly Johnson's novels. It's brilliant fun and I really enjoyed it, it's just not my favourite! I have two more of Johnson's books left to go and I hope she writes quicker than I read, because I'd hate to run dry!
