Amazing illustrations, smart story structure that makes the second read through all the better. This is a children's book for adults with a dark sense of humor and it was right up my alley. I'm about to start the second book and only hope that more are to come. Perhaps the greatest part of the book is Nate Taylor's wonderfully drawn illustrations which provide beauty, humor and tension all at once. I picked this book up because of my deep love of Patrick Rothfuss. My two year old asked me to read it to him. I loved the building tension and the little releases. And then we got to the end. Oh. My. God. The end. Though brilliantly foreshadowed, it hit me like a ton of bricks. My toddler thought it completely normal. We're considering therapy. I make everyone I know read this. And them watch their faces when they hit the end. And then I laugh. (Maybe I need therapy?)Well done, Mr. Rothfuss.
There's a video of Rothfuss reading this. It's so creepy.
