About book The Second Empress. Michelle Moran (2013)
Ordinarily, I would not have chosen to read this book. Napoleon is a subject about whom I have zero interest. But it was a book club selection this month, so naturally I jumped in. All in all, I am glad I read it. I certainly learned new facts!I actually learned much by doing suplimental research on my tablet, while reading. I love to do that sort of thing when I am reading historical fiction. I am reminded of having been immersed in Jean Plaidy historical novels, way back in the 1980s when I was a young stay at home mom, which led to my being a lifelong Anglophile! Most of the details in this novel are historically accurate. Having spent a little time in Austria, and the Rhineland in recent years, I couldn't help but wish I had read this before being there. On the other hand, knowing a little of the Hapsburgs before reading The Second Empress actually enhanced my pleasure in the novel. My personal rating is a solid 3 stars. I read it, finished it and learned something. But, I am unlikely to seek out more works on the topic. I remain a Francophobe This book was A M A Z I N GI've never read a book like this before.Usually I sit to my dystopians but I saw this book in the and thought why not?It was a great decision.I didn't know Napoleon's life was so complex...I mean ewwwwww him and his sister, Pauline, getting it on *shiver*It's sad Marie-Louise got stuck in the, middle and was forced into marriage I love how she got with Adam in the end - finally, some HAPPINESSAnywho, I'm not sure whether this deserves 5 stars or 4 starsHmmm, 4.5 will do I HAD A LONGER REVIEW BUT IT JUST DISAPPEARED - oh well
