About book The Purity Myth: How America's Obsession With Virginity Is Hurting Young Women (2000)

As an Australian, it was difficult to align the information regarding American statistics and policies with my own experiences as a young woman. I obviously didn't want to dismiss examples given just because they didn't apply to me, but I found myself skimming certain sections? I also wish this book was a little less liberal fem and a little more hard hitting and radical. It was a good book, though, and I think its important for all Americans to read, I just don't think it perfectly translates on an international level. I agree with many ideas, but the book is repetitive. Also, the only people who will agree are people who already agree. The time is too aggressive to convert anyone who did not already share her views. I also think she marginalizes people who have religious beliefs about sex and marriage. It's fine to not agree with those beliefs, but she comes across as saying any in with those beliefs is dumb , and that's not anymore okay than those with the beliefs pushing their views on others.
