I was gripped by this book. It's very well constructed...many novels that switch between narrators become tedious...but the phrasing and tempo of Tucker's changes was spot on! Every voice stopped speaking at the perfect time. This is a completely "artless" book, by which I mean, not full of artificial, predictable, cliched writing devices. And the Plot...gripping. No idea if it was going to end well or disastrously, until the last page. I shall definitely read more of this author's works. Lila and Billy are twins who are deeply connected, having survived a traumatic and abusive childhood with only each other to depend on for love and protection. After Billy's violent and unnecessary death, Lila is left to try to deal with her loss, as well as to delve into the long buried secrets of all she and Billy endured as children. Lila comes face to face with the parent who continues to belittle and attempt to destroy her, and discovers hidden strength within, when her mother turns her viciousness against Lila's much loved niece. This is the second book by Lisa Tucker I have read, and I want to read more.
