This short story about Queen Arsinoe II was decent enough. (Hey, and it's free on Amazon, so you don't have anything to lose by checking it out.) Good character development, interesting plot. This is written for young adults, so if you like steamy love scenes in your historical fiction, look elsewhere. Personally, that didn't bother me at all, although the romance between Arsinoe and Cassander felt rather contrived in places. They went from zero to being totally smitten in the flick of a few pages, which seemed unrealistic to me. Oh, and it ended just as the story was really starting to heat up! I hope the author goes back and fleshes it out into a longer novel. Stephanie Dray is one of those writers that can transfer a reader to a different period and convince them that she actually lived it. The 55 page ebook is based on the life of Queen Arsinoe II, who was born into the Greek-Macedonian Ptolemaic Dynasty that ruled Egypt. Although this gives readers only a glimpse of the ruthless ruler Arsinoe will be, Dray leaves a memorable impression that will stick with you long after your finished.I would also like to recommend Dray's series on Cleopatra Selene, daughter of Antony and Cleopatra.
