About book The Perfectly Imperfect Home: How To Decorate And Live Well (2011)

I loved Domino and recently moved, so I picked this up for some inspiration. Given the title, I found some of her advice to be very formal (there are 'rules'), though she includes a lot of quotes and ideas from other, more famous decorators, which gave her some more credibility and added a sense of history to the book. There are some good ideas here, but more for inspiration. It's not particularly budget-friendly, and far from a how-to book.On the up-side, at least one full star was awarded due to the illustrations. They're incredible - they make the book worth checking out. It's also great that they're not photos, so you can envision what you want - somehow, they're less specific. And there's almost as many illustrations as there is copy, so Virginia Johnson did a fantastic job.If you're into decorating, this is probably worth picking up. Otherwise, I don't think I'd bother. I received this book as a Christmas gift and already have high hopes given the sense of humor shown in the blurbs on the back cover - New York Times, Martha Stewart, and author's ten year old son saying "This book is just about moving stuff around in your house so it looks better." :)Now that I've finished the book - I think I have lots of high hopes and ideas that I'm sure I won't get around to accomplishing. Some of the ideas in this book are a little lofty - like having the cupboard space to have a prepared tea tray set up at all times - but the explanations of how to mix and match styles of furniture was helpful. And i liked the concluding quote - "make your home as comfortable and attractive as possible and then get on with living"
