How to describe this book? It's a short book but full of atmosphere and enjoyment. The subtitle, "The life and times of a Hawaiian Tiki Bar" pretty much sums it all up. Soft breezes, surfing, mai tais, eccentric but harmless people, coconuts, pineapple and bananas eaten right off the trees, and a very wise parrot who only talks when given chocolate, that's what the book is filled with all narrated by a gentle and observant bartender. It not only makes you feel as if you've had a holiday in the Islands but makes you want to go back and live there! Lots of whimsy, at times I was reminded of the James Herriott books (lots of short sections on a general theme with humour) and also Cocktail (the Tom Cruise film!) in terms of the subject, the outlandish plots and the way customers treat the bartender as the wise man.Some moving moments. I wasn't convinced by the spiritual aspects of the book (not my thing) but it was a lovely place to spend a few hours, with some great human and animal characters (Ococ and Tiwaka).
Do You like book The Parrot Talks In Chocolate (2009)?
A quick light read but I just couldn't get into it. Putting it back on the shelf for another day.
