Very well thought out... interesting concept. It took a very long time to get to the sex , although the tension was interesting. I really like Jacqs and Zeke and their relationship, but I didn't really find this book that hugely inspiring or enjoyable. The idea of registered sexualities, including dynamic and stenosexual was... unique. And it was very well told. Good tough guy romance. But it was more intellectual than romance. I really enjoyed this story! I thought I might not... since reading about brutish, trouble-makers who have obvious problems but aren't great at figuring stuff out didn't sound appealing. However, brutish, MISUNDERSTOOD trouble-makers is a different story. As one of the characters said, Jacqs is not as much an asshole as he seems. This was a subtlety that was believably handled. Enough glimpses were given of Jacqs' past to see why he might act the way he does, along with enough about his personality to understand him.And Zeke was amazing. What's not to like about a total heroic hard-ass guy who is smart and perceptive? (--and pansexual!) He and Jacqs were good as individual characters, good as buddies and good as a couple.I'm a bit of a military SF fan to begin with, so loved the ship-at-war setting (recently took a bit of a break from m/m to read the last couple of books in the Lost Fleet series). There were enough bits about the outer world to make everything seem real, adding to the story without distracting from the relationship.I'll definitely look forward to reading a longer version of this, even though it is near perfect in this form!
