About book The Mating Of Michael (2014)

There were aspects of this book I loved, and some I didn't care for. I'll tell you what I really didn't care for first. I could have done without the excerpts of James' novels. I am not a sci-Fi fan and I didn't find this interesting at all. What I did love was, well everything else! Micheal and James are great together. Eli told a very touching and loving story. They had a great chemistry and I loved that even when James tried to push Micheal away, he never gave up. He pulled James out of his shell and got him to do things that he never would have done. This book was sweet, there wasn't a lot of sex, but what was there was hot and sweet, and there was a little angst thrown in. I haven't met a book by Eli that I haven't liked yet, she is quickly becoming one of my go to m/m authors, and I look forward to more of her work in the future!! Don't Be Fooled By The CoverI am not a fan of EMO-types--the somewhat effeminate looking young men have never held my interest, no matter what decade I was in (and there have been quite a few). So I was really hesitant to get this book when I saw the cover, especially when a friend highly recommended it and said I did not need to read the series in order.Number One: Friend was wrong, but I forgive him because I loved this book.Number Two: If most EMO boys are like Michael Lamont, we ought to elect one of them President or have a bunch of them run the world.A early 20s nurse and sex surrogate ("What?" you say? Read the first book), Michael is tooling along with his nursing and surrogating while looking for love in all the wrong places. So he leads a fairly mundane life with science fiction about the most exciting thing he can hold on to for the most part. Then he sees that a book signing has been scheduled in Seattle by his favorite writer and he is beside himself in anticipation. The writer of Michael's favorite books, J.C. Guise, has his own issues. His pseudonym hides him from the real world (except he can't hide from his agent), and his real problem is that he is wheelchair bound--and his books are not selling well anymore. In his early 30s, J.C. (who turns out to be James Gallway) has never had any love from anyone--at least that's what he's determined, and when the smoke clears from his first meeting with Michael in the bookstore, he becomes confused, terrified and off-putting. Then Michael takes over and we are treated to one of the most beautiful developing relationships you will ever experience. The star of this book is James, not because he's a hot straight looking sympathetic character. Rather it's that as much as Michael tries to move him to reconcile his extraordinary past and current lives and his failure to confront the future, it is James who gets there by himself in the end. What a wonderful and moving couple of hours you will have with this one.
