I thought this book was funny as hell. If the notion of a clandestine group posting a public notice of the time and place of its next meeting doesn't make you laugh then I just don't know what to say. There's a number of small episodes like that. Several reviewers have complained about repetitiveness. Episodes like the picnic competition have to recur or there's no point. This wasn't a perfect book. But it was full of heart and I highly recommend it. I also recommend you have a supply of cheeses and/or baked goods handy. This had the makings of an entertaining, light read but ended up spoiled by the repetitive nature of the sentencing. How many times do we need to be told about the "sparkly" item in Emilie's hair, or the "seat that hid the salt from the tax payer". Whilst intended to be humourous it grew tired very quickly. The characters were interesting and very human. However, by Chapter 17, I had lost the will or the interest to care what happened to them
most excellent! a story about telling stories. Loved the repetition...that is how we tell stories.
