I kept this book for almost 1 month and not once i felt starting it; but i was force to, due to the expiring of the lend. But it's actually a little gem wrapped in a layer of soil, you just need to scratch a little!The situational humor is amazing and indeed seams very french :)) I am glad my predictions on the couples didn't turn out right (beside Emilie+Guillaume) and that's a bonus for the book, i kind of dislike predictability at a book! I'm really not much of a fluff fiction reader, but I gave this novel a try as I was looking for something lighthearted. The first 1/2 of the book, for me, was rather banal and I had a very hard time sticking with it. During the last half, the story line picked up, but the author's repetitive use of exact phrases became increasingly tedious for me. I equate this experience to the feeling I had when I watched, Billy Murray's "Groundhog Day" and the same things kept repeating. I did persevere and must concede that the author did a clever job of bringing the story lines together. You need a strong stomach to muddle through the unique cultural culinary delicacies that find their way into every occasion a meal is described. It would also be wise to have access to the internet if you are interested in learning what the mystery dishes are made of when a thorough description is omitted.Overall, I would say a 3 out of 5 stars. The story seemed to stem from possibly the author's inspiration from "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris- a definite MUST read and 5 out of 5 stars for the book and the movie- but "Matchmaker" missed the mark. "Chocolat" is a masterpiece and sets the bar extremely high for those inspired by Joanne Harris.
