I love reading anything by John Grogan. I'm reading his old columns in his compilation books. He's an excellent storyteller in all his writings. I can read Marley and Me over and over again along with the shortened version that is the motion picture. This memoir was written with clarity and honesty in very personal accounts towards a direction of his journey. I can now reread Marley and Me with a better understanding of the author and his life. A beautifully written memoir about growing up Catholic, accepting yourself, and letting parents gently go at the end of their lives. As my youngest son prepares to leave home and my parents enter their mid-eighties, I know that my life will cycle as did the author's and his parent's lives. The book brought up feelings and thoughts that I often avoid and perhaps even prepared me for some of these life changes. Having said that, the book is also laugh out loud funny as the author describes exploits and his relationship with his parents. I read the book in a couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I read this book super fast. It is really well written and hilarious and yet very real.
