About book The Longest Trip Home: A Memoir (2008)

Got to know John Grogan from Marley & Me so was glad to get to know him even better. This is an intensely personal memoir in honor of his father. I'm just a couple years older than John so I could relate to his happy childhood and coming of age in a tumultuous time in our country. I was not raised Catholic, however. So I learned much about what a difficult time it can be for a son who comes to question the faith his parents have devoted their entire life to. I like Grogan's sense of humor and honesty. A very worthy read Once again, I was profoundly moved by a John Grogan memoir. I greatly enjoyed reading about his childhood and relationship with his parents. Throughout the first half of the book, I was bursting with laughter. The marijuana plant!!! That marijuana plant! And, the "birds and the bees" talk involving a garden hose.Through the last half of the book, I probably sobbed through the whole thing. You can always count on a memoir about parents or pets... they will pass away, leaving behind unimaginable grief and wisdom. And as I had just gotten off the phone with my grandmother, who has difficulty breathing herself, when I came to the last chapters, it really hit home for me.

Do You like book The Longest Trip Home: A Memoir (2008)?

31/2-4. Made me cry, the love he had for his dad, even though they didn't see eye to eye.
