This story had an interesting concept and storyline. I'm not typically a fan of fantasy when there is so much information to process because of different sounding/looking names of places and people. It definitely took some time to put it all together, but the author did a good job at helping the reader understand what they were reading. There was a lot of backstory, too, which was nice. We don't just jump to a time to find out that Sjurd and Celyn don't like each other, she shows us examples of why they don't get along. The author did a great job at telling us a story about these two and i found myself rooting for them, even when I wanted to smack Sjurd upside the head for being an idiot. 3.5 stars. The story in this novel was outstanding, the creativeness of the writer mind is magnificent, the execution - average. All the way through the book I felt like I was just catching up to the thoughts, descriptions, explanations of the writer, not quite understanding what all of this means. It's like the author was given this limited amount of words she had to use, but then she created this amazing new world that needed to be described, but because of that small number of words it wasn't manageable. As a result more often then not it was hard for me to imagine what is happening, where and how. If this book was written as a full length novel I am positive it would have been a masterpiece.
