About book The Last Stand Of The New York Institute (2013)
I really, really enjoyed this one! I loved how Cassandra Clare gave us a glimpse of how the whole business with the Circle and Valentine Morgenstern began. I know all the members of the Circle always said that, in their defense, Valentine always seemed so charismatic and reasonable, but all I could see was a remorseless monster. It was a bit odd to see Luke at Valentine's side, but I'm glad he kind of got some sense knocked into him toward the end. I really like how Clare got to squeeze in a lot of suspense and action into such a short book. I was really sorry to see how the Whitelaws ended up; it was hard to imagine how a bunch of teenagers was responsible for the end of their line. It was also a bit unnerving to see how different Stephen Herondale was to all the other Herondales. I kind of wonder if Valentine really just brainwashed him, or if his anger stemmed from somewhere else. It was also very nice to see how Jocelyn came to Magnus' aid, and how Tessa ended up helping her as well. This was such an enjoyable read!
